Kebbi State security forces clash with armed group in Makuku
A major confrontation between security forces and a large armed group in Makuku, Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, resulted in the deaths of ten police officers, two civilians, and one vigilante on Monday, 10 August.
According to police spokesperson Bashir Usman, more than 200 armed men on motorcycles attacked a security camp at Makuku around 6:00 a.m., prompting reinforcements from the army and air force. The gun battle lasted over two hours. In a related engagement around 9:25 a.m. along the Rafin Makuku axis, officers intercepted another heavily armed group moving between Zamfara and Kebbi states.
Police reports indicate that at least 17 suspected bandits were killed and four motorcycles used by the attackers were destroyed. Two police officers were injured during the operations. The attackers reportedly approached the community in three separate groups in an attempt to surround the village and its entrance security camp.
