KEDE Annual Congress to be held in Kalamata
The Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) will hold its Annual Regular Congress in Kalamata from November 5 to November 7, 2026. The event, hosted at the Elite City Resort, is expected to gather over 1,000 delegates representing municipalities from across the country, alongside government officials, political party representatives, and public administration executives.
The congress follows the passage of the new Code of Local Self-Government. Key discussion topics include municipal administrative organization, financial autonomy, staffing of municipal services, and climate resilience. Other priorities include energy management, water resource management, social policy, and local development.
Nikos Sakkas, Mayor of Trikala and President of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Thessaly, intends to use the platform to advocate for Thessalian municipalities. His agenda focuses on addressing economic constraints, rising energy costs, and staffing shortages, particularly in the wake of recent natural disasters in the region. The discussions aim to secure increased funding and resources for infrastructure and development programs.
