Keelung City to issue high tide warnings after sea water intrusion

Keelung City experienced flooding due to sea water intrusion caused by Typhoon White Dolphin and high tides. Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang inspected pumping equipment and drainage levels in low-lying areas like Ai 4th Road, noting that even without wind or rain, water levels in ditches remained near capacity during high tide.

To prevent future impacts, the city government plans to issue high tide warnings to proactively alert citizens and businesses. The Public Works Department has increased the deployment of small and large mobile pumps to accelerate water removal and monitor rising river levels.

In a separate incident, a real estate agency in Zhongzheng District reported severe basement flooding, claiming a 1999 emergency helpline falsely reported that personnel had been dispatched. Local officials clarified that the discrepancy was caused by a house number being posted on a pillar between a hotel and the agency, leading responders to the wrong building. The district office has committed to better address verification and contact collection to prevent future confusion.
