Keiko Fujimori Criticized for Silence on Disability Policies in Peru

Disability advocate Felipe Santiago Flores Ponce of Puno publicly rebuked President‑elect Keiko Fujimori for omitting any reference to disability issues in her recent address to the nation before Congress. Flores Ponce highlighted that the dedicated congressional commission on disability has been dissolved and that no specific budget has been allocated for disability programs, leaving existing laws ineffective.

He called on the Ministry of Economy and Finance to create a dedicated fund for disability services at regional and municipal levels and urged political candidates in upcoming regional and municipal elections to include concrete disability policies in their platforms. Flores Ponce also warned of rising intellectual disability rates due to traffic accidents and stressed the need for inclusive education throughout the school system.
