Keiko Fujimori faces aid delays amid earthquakes and landslides

President Keiko Fujimori is facing criticism regarding the delivery of emergency aid following recent seismic activity and natural disasters in Peru. In Pumpunya, one month after a magnitude 5.4 earthquake, only 48 of the 500 temporary housing modules promised by the president have been installed. The emergency has expanded significantly; while the initial quake affected seven districts, a subsequent earthquake on August 6 has extended the emergency to 20 districts, with approximately 3,500 homes reported as destroyed or uninhabitable.

Local mayors are now demanding a formal schedule from the Ministry of Housing to expedite the validation of damaged properties and the distribution of emergency rental bonuses.

Simultaneously, Fujimori is scheduled to visit Camaná to assess damage caused by intense landslides (huaicos) that have blocked the Panamericana Sur for five days. The road closures have isolated northern and southern regions, causing critical food shortages and leaving many travelers stranded. The presidential visit aims to evaluate the situation and promote the establishment of an air bridge between Ocoña and Atico to evacuate citizens.
