Keiko Fujimori faces criminal complaint in Peru

Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori faces a criminal complaint for omission of functions regarding the retention of Attorney General María Caruajulca Quispe in her post. The complaint alleges that the administration failed to remove Caruajulca despite her facing active criminal proceedings and a first-instance conviction, which should have disqualified her from the position. The legal action also names former presidents Dina Boluarte, José Jerí, and José María Balcázar, as well as relevant justice ministers, for failing to fulfill their legal obligation to dismiss her.

Separately, during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Fujimori advocated for treating transnational organized crime as terrorism. She called for increased support for the National Police and Armed Forces to combat these groups, arguing that the continent faces a type of warfare driven by criminal organizations. She also highlighted a new educational reform initiative aimed at improving the national system, though critics have characterized the plan as a continuation of previous models that focused on infrastructure rather than quality.

Due to presidential immunity, any legal proceedings against Fujimori would be limited to specific inquiries and would be frozen until the end of her term.
