Peru to proclaim Keiko Fujimori president after tight second‑round count

The National Jury of Elections (JNE) said it expects to officially proclaim Keiko Fujimori as president on 3 July, once the remaining electoral jurors finish processing the last ballot boxes. The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has tallied 99.877 % of the votes, giving Fujimori 50.121 % of valid votes against 49.879 % for Roberto Sánchez, a margin of about 44,453 votes.

JNE President Roberto Burneo rejected any fraud narrative, noting that over 200 appeals have been resolved and that the remaining challenges do not affect the result. Jurados Electorales Especiales (JEE) have begun decentralized proclamations across the country, with further hearings scheduled through 27 June.

Separately, a ONPE truck carrying ballots and other election material from the first‑round vote caught fire on the Huayllay‑Canta road. The incident caused damage to boxes of actas and cédulas but officials confirmed no injuries and stressed that the destroyed material had already been processed, so the fire does not impact the final presidential count.
