Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center professors win science awards

Three professors from Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center have received the 36th Science and Technology Excellent Paper Award, hosted by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies. The award recognizes significant research achievements in both basic and clinical medicine.

Professor Lee Jae-ho was honored for research analyzing the impact of expanding medical school quotas on anatomy practical training. The study highlights how such training affects professionalism, problem-solving, and research capabilities among medical students.

Professor Kim Hae-won received recognition for studying the link between cerebral glucose metabolism and neurodevelopmental outcomes in extremely low birth weight infants. Using FDG PET scans, the research suggests a method for early risk assessment in cases where traditional MRI scans show no structural abnormalities.

Professor Kim Jin-kyung was awarded for research on phenotypic and antibiotic resistance transitions in virulent Klebsiella pneumoniae. The study identifies how certain capsule-deficient variants maintain virulence while increasing survival rates and resistance to polymyxin B, providing critical data for future infection control strategies.
