Keio University student arrested for credit card theft

Karen Niizawa, a 22-year-old fourth-year student at Keio University, has been arrested on suspicion of theft and fraud. Niizawa, who worked as a receptionist at a sports facility in Shibuya, Tokyo, is accused of using a staff master key to access a female customer's locker and steal a credit card in April 2026.

Following the theft, Niizawa allegedly used the card in Shinjuku to purchase cosmetics. While the suspect claimed to have found the card in the changing room, police believe the master key was used to unlock the secured locker. Authorities are investigating additional offenses totaling approximately 1 million yen.

Reports indicate Niizawa is a returnee from New York and was a manager for the university's ski club. Following the arrest, several of her social media accounts and university-related club pages were reportedly made private or deleted.
