KEK denies coal sale agreement with JSC ESM is a concession

The Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) has issued a formal statement addressing controversies regarding its coal sale agreement with JSC ESM in North Macedonia. KEK clarified that the contract is strictly for the sale of coal and does not constitute a concession over coal, mines, assets, or resources.

According to the corporation, the agreement involves a 36-month period with a potential value of up to 73.2 million euros, priced at 24.4 euros per ton excluding VAT. KEK emphasized that the sale is a direct transaction to the end user without intermediaries and that the corporation is not responsible for excavation, transport, or logistical operations.

KEK stated that this arrangement ensures that coal sales do not interfere with domestic mining operations, power plant supplies, or local electricity production, noting that the needs of domestic thermal power plants remain the absolute priority. The corporation maintains that the contract and tender documents are publicly available on the E-Procurement platform for verification.
