Kelantan authorities seize 20.4 tonnes of subsidised cooking oil bound for Thailand

The Kelantan branch of Malaysia’s Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDN) carried out three coordinated raids in Pasir Puteh, Pasir Mas and Tumpat, intercepting a total of 20.4 tonnes (1,040 boxes, 17,680 kg) of subsidised cooking oil that was being smuggled to a base near the Thailand border. The largest seizure, made in Kampung Telaga Bata, Tumpat, involved a loaded lorry and was described as the biggest operation of its kind in the state.

Three local men, aged around 40, were detained to assist investigations under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. Authorities say the oil was sourced from Melaka and Pahang before being moved to Kelantan for illegal export. The oil’s market value was estimated at RM44,200, with the total confiscated assets—including the lorry—valued at about RM94,200.
