Kelantan authorities seize RM1.425 million in timber and machinery
The Kelantan Forestry Department and the General Operations Force (GOF) seized machinery and timber valued at approximately RM1.425 million during a raid on a sawmill in Kampung Bukit Kecil, Tanah Merah.
During the operation, known as ‘Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan’, authorities detained four men aged between 26 and 45. The seizure included Caterpillar heavy machinery worth RM800,000, two band saw machines, two cross-cut machines, 13 saw blades, and 290 logs of various species.
While one individual, a factory clerk, possessed a valid Wood-Based Industry Certificate, he was unable to produce a required timber removal permit. Subsequent inspections suggested the timber was untaxed. Investigations indicate the processed wood was being supplied to pallet factories around Kelantan. The case is being investigated under Section 84 of the National Forestry Act 1984.
