Malaysian law enforcement operations against illegal goods
Overview
Law enforcement operations in Malaysia have targeted illegal resource extraction and smuggling. In Kelantan, authorities conducted ‘Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan’, a raid on a sawmill in Tanah Merah that resulted in the seizure of timber and heavy machinery valued at approximately RM1.425 million. Four men were detained during the operation, which investigated the possession of untaxed timber.
In Sarawak, the General Operations Force (GOF) conducted 29 operations between mid-to-late September, seizing goods and equipment valued at approximately RM84.42 million. These operations, including ‘Op Taring Libas’, ‘Op Taring Bravo’, and others, led to the arrest of 41 individuals. The seizures covered a wide range of offences, most notably the illegal collection and processing of timber, which accounted for RM76.83 million of the total value, alongside the smuggling of untaxed cigarettes, liquor, and the misuse of subsidized fuel.
