Kelechi Iheanacho joins Bursaspor, leaves Celtic for Turkish project

Nigerian international striker Kelechi Iheanacho, 29, terminated his short spell with Celtic and signed for Turkish second‑division side Bursaspor. The club, a former Turkish Super Lig champion, is targeting a swift return to the top flight and presented Iheanacho with a “big project” to help achieve promotion. Iheanacho said he asked his agent to do “everything possible” to secure the move, rejecting Celtic’s contract offer. The deal includes an annual salary of about £1.2 million (£23,000 per week).

He highlighted the club’s history, the ambition to reach the Super Lig and play in Europe, and expressed excitement to contribute to the team’s goals. Iheanacho also noted the visual similarity between the green‑white kits of Celtic and Bursaspor, describing it as a familiar yet distinct change.
