Iheanacho sets Turkish scoring record with Bursaspor

Overview

Following his move to Bursaspor in July 2026, Kelechi Iheanacho has maintained a prolific scoring form in the Turkish 1. Lig. After scoring twice in a comeback win against Manisa on 8 September, Iheanacho continued his streak on 13 September 2026 during a 2-2 home draw against Erokspor, marking his ninth league goal of the season. On 19 September 2026, Iheanacho extended his scoring streak to eight consecutive matches by scoring twice in a 2-1 comeback victory against Batman Petrolspor. This brace brought his season total to 11 goals and two assists in eight appearances, matching a club record set by Fernandao during the 2014/15 season. This victory maintained Bursaspor’s position at the top of the league table. By 5 October 2026, Iheanacho addressed his transfer from Celtic to Bursaspor, clarifying to the Nigerian Football Federation that the move was a personal choice rather than a decision motivated by higher wages. He described the Turkish second tier as a “genuinely tough division” and expressed satisfaction with his current environment. On 10 October 2026, Iheanacho extended his scoring streak to ten consecutive matches for club and country, including a recent goal for Nigeria against Russia. Despite his 81st-minute equalizer from outside the penalty area, Bursaspor suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Mardin 1969 Spor following a stoppage-time goal by Zdravko Dimitrov. On 19 October 2026, Iheanacho extended his scoring streak to 11 consecutive matches during a 2-0 victory against Pendikspor, bringing his league total to 15 goals in 11 appearances and placing him at the top of the scoring charts. Finally, on 25 October 2026, Iheanacho set a new Turkish league record by scoring in 12 consecutive matches during a 4-2 victory over Keçiörengücü, a result that propelled Bursaspor to the top of the league table.
