Kelsea Tafirenyika apologizes to Zimbabwe's First Lady amid money laundering case

Kelsea Tafirenyika, the daughter-in-law of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has issued a ‘profuse apology’ to First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa following a legal dispute that has drawn the First Family into public controversy.

Tafirenyika is currently facing charges including money laundering, drug possession, and the use of a forged identity document. During recent bail hearings at the Harare Magistrates Court, her legal team challenged police allegations that she owns 22 properties in Harare and assets in Dubai acquired through drug proceeds. Tafirenyika maintains that the disputed properties are matrimonial assets acquired jointly with her husband, Collins Mnangagwa, and that the funds involved were gifts.

Her lawyers accused investigators of sensationalizing the case and using unverified social media claims to tarnish the reputation of the First Family. The defense argued that police failed to investigate the matrimonial nature of the assets before proceeding to court. The apology aims to seek an ‘amicable resolution’ to the family dispute and distance Tafirenyika from claims that her legal defense has scandalized the presidency.
