Kemal Baykallı urges Turkish government to assume responsibility on Cyprus diplomacy

Kemal Baykallı, the Foreign Relations and Digital Diplomacy Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (TDP), criticised Turkish Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu for remarks that, in his view, undermine the diplomatic process over Cyprus. Baykallı said the Turkish government must take clear responsibility, stating that “the state cannot have two languages on the Cyprus issue.” He highlighted intensive diplomatic contacts by the UN Secretary‑General’s personal envoy between Nicosia, Ankara, Athens, Brussels and New York, and noted support from Turkey and EU officials. Baykallı warned that the minister’s statements weaken the elected President’s position and damage the will of Turkish Cypriots, calling on the Prime Minister and the government to either endorse or reject the foreign minister’s stance.
