Özgür Özel campaigns in Diyarbakır as CHP faces internal crisis

CHP group chairman Özgür Özel travelled to Diyarbakır, meeting civil‑society groups, farmers and local officials. He criticised the high grain‑price calculations, the cost of irrigation, and the role of the private electricity distributor DEDAŞ, calling for the sector to return to state control. Özel urged the government to cancel farmers’ agricultural loan debt and to end costly electricity‑billing practices, warning that food inflation in Turkey now exceeds 30 %.

Earlier, after the court’s May 21 “mutual‑butlan” decision that re‑installed Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as CHP leader, Özel held talks with CHP MPs, asking whether they would back a new party if the current leadership were blocked. He warned that the party’s “new‑road” scenario could be activated and urged members to stay united.

At an official parliamentary funeral for former deputy Orhan Sür, Kılıçdaroğlu and Özel briefly met, underscoring the ongoing leadership split within the main opposition party.
