Kempten emergency shelter fire injures three people

A fire broke out in a municipal emergency shelter on Reinhartser Straße in Kempten on Sunday morning. The blaze completely destroyed one apartment, causing damage estimated by police to exceed 50,000 euros.

Three people suffered from smoke inhalation, and one individual sustained serious burns while attempting to extinguish the flames. Approximately 20 to 30 people were staying in the facility at the time of the incident; they were evacuated to an outdoor assembly point where they received medical attention.

The Kempten fire department deployed roughly 50 personnel, supported by five ambulances, three emergency doctors, and a rescue helicopter. While the fire was contained to a single unit, preventing it from spreading to other apartments, the affected residence is currently uninhabitable. Police experts are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
