Kenneth Gilbert Adjei assumes leadership of Ghana's Ministry of Defence

Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has officially assumed leadership of Ghana’s Ministry of Defence, following a formal handover from Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. The transition follows a cabinet reshuffle by President John Dramani Mahama on August 7, 2026.

Dr. Forson had been serving in an acting capacity for the defence portfolio for approximately one year, following the death of the previous substantive minister in a military helicopter crash in August 2025. By stepping down from the defence role, Dr. Forson will now focus exclusively on his responsibilities as Finance Minister.

Prior to this appointment, Adjei served as the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources. During his interim stewardship, Dr. Forson also finalized a technical arrangement with Burkina Faso’s Minister of State and Minister of War and Patriotic Defence, Major General Célestin Simporé, regarding security support for convoys—an agreement that Adjei is now tasked with implementing.
