Kenneth Walker III on pace for NFL records and MVP consideration

Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker III is emerging as a top candidate for the NFL Most Valuable Player award following a dominant start to his first season with the team. After a performance against the Los Angeles Chargers where he recorded 128 rushing yards and two touchdowns, former NFL defensive end J. J. Watt argued that Walker’s impact on the Chiefs' offense warrants more recognition in the MVP race.

Watt noted that Walker’s ability to break tackles and force missed tackles—leading the league with 52 through five games—has significantly improved the team's play-action game and created more opportunities for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Statistically, Walker is currently on pace to break multiple NFL single-season records. With 665 rushing yards and 760 yards from scrimmage through five games, he is projected to surpass Eric Dickerson’s rushing record of 2,105 yards and Chris Johnson’s record of 2,509 yards from scrimmage. Walker, who joined the Chiefs after leaving the Seattle Seahawks, is scheduled to face his former team this Sunday.
