Seahawks snap Chiefs' undefeated streak

Overview

The Kansas City Chiefs' undefeated start to the 2026 season ended following a 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field. The defeat brings the Chiefs' record to 5-1.

Seattle's defense played a decisive role in the victory, holding the Chiefs without a touchdown and preventing them from reaching the red zone, a feat described as occurring “for the first time in Patrick Mahomes' career.” The Seahawks' pass rush also successfully neutralized the Chiefs' primary offensive threat, Kenneth Walker III, limiting the NFL's rushing leader to just 36 yards on 14 carries. This performance marked Walker's first return to Seattle since leaving the team in the offseason.

Offensively, Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold completed 20 of 28 passes for 257 yards and a touchdown, while wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba recorded nine receptions for 150 yards and a score. Emanuel Wilson secured the win with a 21-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, totaling 100 yards on 24 carries.

Patrick Mahomes struggled against the Seattle defense, finishing with 165 passing yards, one interception, and a 58.3 passer rating. The Chiefs' only points came from a 50-yard field goal by Harrison Butker; Butker also missed two other field goal attempts. Following the game, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the team's performance, stating, “All three phases, we struggled. We’ve gotta do better. That’s my responsibility.” The win moves the Seahawks to a 4-3 record, snapping a two-game losing streak.
