Kenya cancels presidential Congo visit over Ebola as Kenyatta backs DRC peace talks

President William Ruto of Kenya called off a planned trip to Brazzaville, Congo, after health officials warned that he could face a mandatory 21‑day Ebola quarantine on his return. Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale told the Milimani High Court that Ruto delivered his speech virtually and that members of the president’s advance team were placed in quarantine for 21 days. The government also defended the construction of an Ebola quarantine and isolation facility at Laikipia Airbase as the region monitors the outbreak.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is leading a three‑day Process Design Meeting in Nairobi (June 22‑24, 2026) to support the Eastern DRC peace process. The closed‑door technical session brings together representatives from the African Union, East African Community, SADC, UN MONUSCO, the Office of the Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region and other experts to refine scope, safeguards and sequencing criteria for future engagement with armed groups in Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu.
