Kenya DPP approves murder charges against five suspects in lawyer Mbobu case
The Director of Public Prosecutions has approved murder charges against five suspects in connection with the killing of lawyer and lecturer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu. The suspects include politician Rose Mbithe Mulwa, her children Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa, and two police constables, Julius Kipkoech Cheruiyot and Kennedy Kipkemei Borboroi.
During a court appearance in Kibera, the two police constables were ordered to undergo mental assessments at Mbagathi Hospital. The court also directed the production of the Mulwa family members, who are currently held in various remand facilities. The suspects are scheduled to take plea on October 27, 2026, following the receipt of the mental assessment reports.
Mbobu was killed in Nairobi on September 9, 2025. The investigation is linked to the previous murder of Dr. Victoria Mutiso, a former Director of the African Institute of Mental and Brain Health, who was shot in July 2026. Detectives have identified a land dispute as a potential motive for the killings.
