Kenya former Sports PS charged over Ksh330 million CHAN funds

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved graft-related charges against former Sports Principal Secretary Peter Kirimi Kaberia and several other suspects regarding the alleged misappropriation of Ksh330 million. The funds were originally allocated for Kenya’s preparations to host the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

The accused include four former government officials and five businessmen, alongside five companies: Auditel Kenya, Taxwise Consulting Limited, Restea Enterprises Limited, Lease Pride Limited, and Liroma Assurance Services Limited. The charges, which follow investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), include abuse of office, unlawful acquisition of public property, failure to comply with procurement laws, and financial misconduct.

In court, some of the accused, including Kaberia and several officials, were granted bond or bail. The prosecution also included charges of conspiracy to commit an economic crime against several individuals and entities involved in the case.
