Kenya increases preparedness for upcoming rainy season

The Kenyan government has increased preparedness measures ahead of the October-November-December 2026 rainfall season. Government Spokesperson Charles Owino stated that ministries and agencies are collaborating with county governments and humanitarian organizations to strengthen response mechanisms against potential floods, landslides, and infrastructure damage.

Authorities are conducting risk assessments in vulnerable areas and enhancing early-warning communication systems. Residents in flood-prone locations and near rivers have been urged to take early precautions to protect lives and property.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has also issued immediate forecasts, predicting rainfall across various counties. Recent forecasts indicate morning showers in coastal regions such as Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi, while western counties including Kakamega, Bungoma, and Kericho are expected to experience afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
