Kenya Judiciary disowns fake letter targeting Rigathi Gachagua

The Kenyan Judiciary has issued a statement categorically disowning a fake letter circulating on social media. The forged document, which used official branding, falsely claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua attempted to influence a Supreme Court case regarding the eligibility of impeached public officers to contest elective office.

The fabricated communication alleged that Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu had lodged a formal complaint regarding attempts to procure her influence. It further made unsubstantiated claims involving former Chief Justice David Maraga and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka. The fake letter suggested that the Judicial Service Commission intended to investigate these individuals and pursue disciplinary action.

Chief Justice Martha Koome clarified that the letter was neither authored nor issued by her office or any authorized organ of the Judiciary. The institution condemned the document as a deliberate fabrication intended to hijack judicial authority for political purposes and urged the public and media to verify all communications through official channels.
