Kenya Meteorological Authority forecasts rainfall across multiple counties
The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has issued a seven-day forecast predicting rainfall across dozens of counties from September 15 to 21, 2026. This weather pattern is being influenced by the El Niño phenomenon as the country prepares for the OND rainfall season.
Rainfall is expected in a wide range of regions, including Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Embu, Garissa, Homa Bay, Kajiado, Kakamega, Kericho, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu, Machakos, Makueni, Mandera, Marsabit, Meru, Migori, Mombasa, Murang'a, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Tharaka-Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga, Wajir, and West Pokot.
Temperature fluctuations are also expected. Daytime maximums may exceed 30°C in counties such as Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit, and Turkana. Conversely, some highland and central areas, including Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nakuru, Narok, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado, may experience cooler nights with minimum temperatures falling below 10°C. KMSA has urged the public to use these forecasts to protect lives, property, and livelihoods from weather-related hazards.
