Kenya National Examinations Council launches online KCSE certificate verification platform

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has opened an e‑Certificate verification portal that lets employers, universities, government agencies and other institutions confirm the authenticity of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates issued between 1989 and 2024. Organizations must first register as verifier entities, provide incorporation documents, and verify their email address via a one‑time password before KNEC reviews and approves the application. Once approved, users can submit verification requests by entering a candidate’s index number, examination year and full name, upload the PDF of the e‑certificate, and indicate the purpose such as employment, admission or immigration. Payments for the service are made through account wallet credits or the eCitizen platform using methods like M‑Pay.

The system delivers consolidated reports showing whether each certificate is verified or referred for further review, replacing the previous reliance on physical certificates and streamlining credential checks for Kenyan institutions.
