Kenya Power announces planned outages in six counties

Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, affecting six counties: Nairobi, Trans Nzoia, Meru, Nyeri, Kwale, and Mombasa. In Nairobi, outages will impact areas including Ngong Road, Kibera, and Kayole. Other regions such as Mitunguu Market in Meru and Mwisho Farm in Trans Nzoia will also experience service disruptions.

These recurring interruptions are increasingly impacting business continuity and property management. According to the World Bank, power outages cost local businesses an average of 1.5 per cent of annual sales. Kenya Power has noted that the rapid growth of variable wind and solar generation is affecting grid stability and reliability. Consequently, property owners are being encouraged to invest in alternative energy solutions, such as solar panels, battery storage, and hybrid inverters, to mitigate the economic impact of grid failures and voltage fluctuations.
