Kenya Power manages scheduled outages and substation fire recovery

Kenya Power has announced scheduled electricity interruptions for Wednesday, August 12, affecting parts of Nakuru, Migori, Meru, and Mombasa counties. In Nakuru, outages will impact Salga Centre and surrounding markets. Migori will see interruptions in the Ngere and Alara areas, while Meru will experience outages in Nchiru, Kagaene, Machagene, Laare, and Mutuati Market.

In a separate development, the utility company confirmed it has restored power to 90 percent of customers affected by a fire at the Musaga Substation on August 7. The fire initially left Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, and Vihiga counties without electricity.

To mitigate the impact, affected customers were transferred to alternative supply points via Webuye, Mumias, Eldoret, Kitale, Kisumu, and Rang’ala substations. While most service has returned, some areas may still experience low voltage as crews work to replace damaged cables and secure replacement transformers to restore full capacity to the substation.
