Kenya prepares for CAF inspection ahead of 2027 AFCON

A delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is scheduled to arrive in Kenya on August 27, 2026, to inspect facilities for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Kenya is co-hosting the tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17, 2027.

Nicholas Musonye, chairman of Kenya’s Local Organising Committee (LOC), stated that the inspection will focus on infrastructure, including stadiums, training venues, hotels, airports, and hospitals. Key venues in Kenya include the 48,000-seater Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani and the 60,000-seater Raila Odinga Talanta Stadium, which is reportedly 95% complete. The committee has also reinstated Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret as an alternative venue.

Kenya is actively campaigning to host both the tournament's opening match and the final. Officials informed the National Assembly’s Select Committee on Regional Integration that overall preparations are estimated at 80% completion. While CAF has confirmed the tournament dates, the specific locations for the opening and closing fixtures remain undecided.
