Kenya reports two fatal elephant attacks in Kwale and Tana River

Two fatal elephant attacks in Kenya have resulted in the deaths of local residents. In Kwale County, an elderly Tanzanian national believed to be approximately 80 years old was killed while collecting firewood in a forest in Kinango. His body was recovered by police and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officials on Friday night.

In Tana River County, a herdsman named Ibrahim Muhumed Ali was killed by an elephant while grazing cattle in the Badhan area. The incident occurred on Thursday, and the deceased sustained fatal injuries at the scene. KWS officers are investigating the circumstances of both encounters.

These incidents occur amid ongoing efforts to manage human-wildlife conflict in Kenya. The government has implemented the third phase of its Human–Wildlife Conflict Compensation Programme to support affected families. Additionally, President William Ruto recently introduced the Wildlife Conservation Card, developed with KCB Bank, to fund conservation efforts through transaction-based contributions.
