Human-elephant conflict in Kenya

Overview

In Kenya, two fatal elephant attacks have been reported in Kwale and Tana River counties. In Kwale, an elderly Tanzanian national died while gathering firewood, while in Tana River, a herdsman was killed while grazing cattle.

The Kenya Wildlife Service is investigating these incidents as part of broader efforts to manage human-wildlife conflict. To support affected families, the government has implemented the third phase of its Human–Wildlife Conflict Compensation Programme. Additionally, a new Wildlife Conservation Card has been introduced to fund conservation through transaction-based contributions.
