Kenya sports stakeholders support Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2026
Sports stakeholders in Kenya’s Trans-Nzoia and Bungoma counties have expressed support for the proposed Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2026. During public participation forums organized by the National Assembly’s Sports and Culture Committee, coaches, athletes, and administrators argued that the legislation would promote fair competition and protect clean athletes.
Participants called for increased accountability for those who facilitate doping. Basketball coach Bintiah Kiarie welcomed provisions that would expand the law's reach to include coaches and other individuals who encourage the use of prohibited substances.
While endorsing the bill, football coach Tobias Onjila raised concerns regarding athlete privacy during random and unannounced testing, suggesting that authorities must prevent the law from being used for personal vendettas. Additionally, former rugby player Mark Sawa advocated for the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) to decentralize its operations beyond Nairobi to improve monitoring and education nationwide.
