Kenya anti-doping regulatory efforts
Overview
Following a three-day visit by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) President Witold Bańka, Kenya has intensified its efforts to combat doping cartels and corrupt supply networks. President William Ruto indicated that the nation is working to align domestic anti-doping laws with the WADA World Anti-Doping Code, aiming for full operational status by January 2027.
In support of these efforts, sports stakeholders in Trans-Nzoia and Bungoma counties have voiced approval for the proposed Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2026. During public forums, coaches and athletes advocated for increased accountability for those facilitating prohibited substance use. While endorsing the legislation, some participants raised concerns regarding athlete privacy during unannounced testing and called for the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) to decentralize its operations to improve nationwide monitoring.
