Kenya suspect arrested for nine fraudulent insurance claims

Detectives from the Insurance Fraud Investigations Unit (IFIU) have arrested Edwin Odhuambo Oduor in connection with nine fraudulent compensation claims stemming from a September 8, 2023, road accident on Kangundo Road.

The investigation began after Jubilee Insurance Company raised concerns regarding the authenticity of claims made by individuals alleging injuries in the two-vehicle crash. Investigators determined that supporting documents had been fraudulently obtained from Mama Lucy Hospital and Kayole Police Station to facilitate the claims.

Following a review by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Oduor was recommended for charges of conspiracy and insurance fraud. He was arrested in the Omega area of Kasarani and is expected to appear at the Milimani Law Courts. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated it is continuing to pursue criminal networks involved in staging accidents and falsifying documents to exploit insurance systems.
