Kenyan DPP Renson Ingonga warns politicians against hiring goons

Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga said any politician found sponsoring goons or making inflammatory statements will face criminal charges. He made the remarks at the 38th National Council on the Administration of Justice in Mombasa, stressing that the law applies equally to government and opposition leaders.

Ingonga pledged cooperation with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to investigate and prosecute political violence. The warning follows concerns over hired goons disrupting rallies and public events ahead of Kenya's 2027 General Election. Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno warned that officials who hire goons could lose state‑provided security, and President William Ruto has directed security agencies to act decisively against goonism.
