The Nairobi High Court has dealt with two separate human‑rights petitions. In one, Justice Alexander Muteti postponed a decision on the disappearance of Abdulaziz Zizou until a formal application is filed to allow the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) to intervene as interested parties. The court will revisit the matter on 30 July 2026.

In a related hearing, victims of alleged abductions and enforced disappearances have petitioned the same court to be included in the government’s compensation programme for human‑rights violations. They argue that the exclusion of such victims, and an additional verification process, contravenes the Constitution, Presidential Proclamation No. 1 of 2026 and a 2025 High Court ruling. The petition targets the Panel of Experts on Compensation, IPOA and other respondents, seeking a declaration that the exclusion is unlawful and that the victims be granted equal redress.
