Kenyan Law Society Boycott of Judges Faces High Court Challenge

Advocate Adrian Kamotho has filed an urgent petition in Kenya’s High Court seeking a conservatory order to halt the Law Society of Kenya’s (LSK) boycott of senior judges. The boycott, announced by LSK President Charles Kanjama on July 23, targets Chief Justice Martha Koome, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu and several other judicial officers, directing lawyers to seek transfers, recusal or adjournments in any matters before them.

Kamotho argues the boycott is unconstitutional, denies litigants access to justice and threatens the rule of law. In a related commentary, legal experts warn that the bench‑bar standoff could erode public confidence and investor trust, calling for dialogue and conciliation to resolve the dispute without further disrupting court operations.
