Kenyan researcher Dr Victoria Mutiso shot dead in Nairobi, investigation links vehicle to prior demolition

Prominent mental‑health researcher Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso was fatally shot on July 29 while boarding a taxi in Nairobi’s Upper Hill district. Autopsy at Kenyatta National Hospital confirmed three gunshot wounds, two to the head, caused severe bleeding and death.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) say a stolen Toyota Prado, seized after a February demolition of Mutiso’s 20‑acre property in Mlolongo, may have been used to block her taxi before gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire. The vehicle is now a key focus of the murder probe, which also examines earlier threats Mutiso reported.

Two suspects, former presidential aspirant Rose Mbithe Mulwa and her son Chris Mulwa, were arraigned at Milimani Law Courts. The DCI has asked a court to detain them for 30 days while investigations continue, seeking additional suspects and further forensic evidence.
