Kenyan researcher Victoria Mutiso murder investigation sees more arrests and court custody extension
Police in Kenya have arrested two additional suspects, Angela Mulwa and Nelson Masiga, in connection with the July 29 killing of researcher Victoria Nthunya Mutiso. Their detention brings the total number of suspects held to four. Investigators say the murder is linked to a long‑running dispute over a 21‑acre parcel of land in Mlolongo valued at more than Ksh2 billion, during which several vehicles, including a black Range Rover Sport worth Sh15 million and a Toyota Prado, were stolen or destroyed.
A Mavoko court has granted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) a 14‑day extension to keep Mulwa and Masiga in custody while forensic and digital evidence is examined. Prosecutors argue the suspects could interfere with the recovery of the missing vehicles and other property, while defence counsel contends the case stems from a civil land eviction. The investigation remains active as detectives continue to search for the remaining missing vehicles and documents.
