Kenya's William Ruto responds to claims of 2022 election rigging
Political tensions in Kenya have resurfaced regarding the 2022 presidential election. Former President Uhuru Kenyatta recently claimed that Raila Odinga won the vote but was denied victory through rigging. This assertion was echoed by Kalonzo Musyoka, who warned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) regarding the upcoming 2027 elections, alleging that Odinga’s victory had been stolen on three occasions.
President William Ruto responded to these claims by urging political leaders to exercise discipline and sobriety. Speaking in Taita Taveta County, Ruto criticized leaders for making “incoherent statements” that could cause unnecessary trouble, noting that the election results were settled years ago. Government allies have also pushed back, accusing Kenyatta and his associates of reopening old wounds and threatening the credibility of future electoral processes.
