Kepez Municipality launches 'Cleanliness Is Not Pollution' street cleaning campaign
Kepez Municipality in Turkey has started the "Temizlik Kirletmemektir" (Cleanliness Is Not Pollution) campaign to improve street cleanliness and foster citizen participation. Mayor Mesut Kocagöz and municipal teams conduct intensive pre‑work in each neighbourhood, cleaning sidewalks, painting curbs, repairing roads and addressing other local deficiencies before the campaign officially begins.
The initiative includes monthly contests for the "Cleanest Street" and "Cleanest Avenue," with award‑winning neighbourhoods highlighted publicly and given surprise prizes. Officials say the program aims to reduce environmental litter, create healthier public spaces, boost neighbourhood pride, and encourage a lasting culture of shared responsibility for cleanliness between the municipality and residents.
