Turkey expands healthcare infrastructure and worker support

Turkish Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu has announced several major healthcare initiatives and infrastructure developments across the country. During visits to Gaziantep and Burdur, Memişoğlu highlighted the expansion of the national hospital network, stating that the country is set to gain 20 new city hospitals with a combined capacity of over 24,000 beds.

In Gaziantep, a new 50-bed service building for the Şehitkamil State Hospital has opened to serve the Organized Industrial Zone (OSB), benefiting approximately 500,000 people. Additionally, the Nizip State Hospital has been inaugurated. In Burdur, plans are underway to convert the existing state hospital into a Training and Research Hospital to work in conjunction with the local medical faculty, and a new 50-bed hospital in Eşeler is nearing completion.

To support the nation's 1.5 million healthcare workers, the Ministry is launching a program to establish 24-hour nurseries and kindergartens within major hospitals. The first phase will see the commencement of seven pilot centers this year. This initiative specifically aims to support the significant female workforce in the sector. Furthermore, in Düzce, a new emergency health services station has been opened to strengthen the regional medical response network.
