Healthcare facilities in Turkey and Northern Cyprus are undergoing significant technological and infrastructural expansions.

In Turkey, recent developments include the modernization of Gördes State Hospital, the implementation of a next-generation Essenz heart-lung system at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Hospital, and the acquisition of a second robotic surgical system by Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine Hospital. National infrastructure projects are advancing, with Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu reiterating plans to complete 20 new city hospitals providing over 24,000 beds.

The city hospital model, which integrates diagnosis, treatment, surgery, rehabilitation, education, and research on single campuses, has reached a significant milestone. Turkey’s 27 existing operating city hospitals have performed approximately 12 million surgeries, provided over 455 million polyclinic services, and conducted more than 85 million emergency examinations. These facilities currently offer a capacity of about 40,000 beds. Construction is underway for 13 additional city hospitals, which are expected to increase total bed capacity to approximately 56,000.

Specific construction progress remains notable. In Niğde, the Bor Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital has reached 85 percent completion. The 250-bed facility will include 30 outpatient clinics, robotic walking rehabilitation, and specialized treatment pools. In Diyarbakır, the Kayapınar City Hospital has reached 98 percent completion. This 1,000-bed complex, designed with 802 seismic isolators to ensure service during earthquakes, is expected to enter service in the second half of 2027 and accommodate approximately 60,000 people daily.

To support the nation’s 1.5 million healthcare workers, the Ministry is launching a pilot program for 24-hour childcare. In Northern Cyprus, the Ministry of Health continues to expand capacity and services across several state hospitals, including Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu, Gazimağusa, Girne Akçiçek, and Cengiz Topel.
