Kepler Communications books dedicated Rocket Lab Neutron launch for 2028

Kepler Communications has booked its first dedicated commercial launch using Rocket Lab’s upcoming Neutron medium-lift rocket. The mission is targeted for no earlier than 2028 and will deploy a batch of new satellites to low Earth orbit to expand the company’s infrastructure.

This agreement marks a strategic shift for Kepler, which has previously relied on rideshare flights to deploy its 33 existing satellites. By opting for a dedicated launch, the company gains direct control over orbital placement and mission timing. The new satellites are intended to add optical connectivity, on-orbit computing, and hosted-payload capacity to Kepler’s constellation, which serves both commercial and government clients.

The move comes amid shifts in the space industry, including reports that SpaceX may stop accepting new commercial bookings for its Transporter rideshare missions beyond late 2028. While the specific contract value and the number of satellites have not been disclosed, the mission will launch from Rocket Lab’s Launch Complex 3 on Wallops Island, Virginia.
