Kerala Assembly Calls for Nationwide NEET Exam Reform
The Kerala Legislative Assembly passed a resolution urging the Union government to comprehensively overhaul the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the broader national examination system. Higher Education Minister Roji M. John highlighted repeated paper‑leak incidents, technical failures, evaluation irregularities and a spate of student suicides linked to NEET, saying these flaws have eroded public confidence and compromised the fairness of a test that determines the future of lakhs of medical aspirants.
The motion, supported by both the ruling UDF and opposition LDF, called for stronger technological safeguards, independent oversight at every stage, stringent criminal action against malpractice, and greater consultation with state governments in exam policy. A three‑member BJP party sought amendments praising the Centre’s response and citing fast‑track courts, but these were rejected and the original resolution was adopted by voice vote.
The assembly urged the Centre to address structural deficiencies across other national examinations conducted by the National Testing Agency, including CUET‑UG, UGC‑CSIR, SSC and RRB tests, to restore credibility, transparency and fairness.
