Kerala CM V D Satheesan marks 100 days and contests rail transfer

Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has marked his first 100 days in office by addressing state development and administrative challenges. Satheesan has expressed a willingness to adopt effective governance strategies from his predecessor, Pinarayi Vijayan, while emphasizing the need for a tough approach to negotiate the state's financial needs.

Key initiatives during this period include Mission Samudra, a plan to strengthen the maritime economy, and welfare measures such as increased honorariums for ASHA workers and the Priyadarshini free travel scheme for women. The government has also launched Operation Toofan, an anti-drug trafficking drive.

Simultaneously, Satheesan has formally requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in a Railway Board decision to transfer the Mangaluru area from the Palakkad Division to the Mysuru Division. The Chief Minister argues that this move, scheduled for October 2026, was made without state consultation and could severely impact Kerala's railway infrastructure and freight revenue, noting that the Mangaluru region contributes significantly to the Palakkad Division's annual income.
