Kerala Congress factions battle over chief minister pick, call for calm

Following the United Democratic Front's victory in Kerala, the Congress party has not yet named a chief minister, sparking competition among senior leaders VD Satheesan, KC Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala. Supporters of each contender organized rallies, erected large flex boards and engaged in poster wars, with some posters being torn down and replaced.

Party officials condemned the "unruly behaviour" and removed several office‑bearers who backed the protests. Senior leaders later issued a joint appeal urging cadres to stop processions and flex‑board battles, stating, "There have been some unfortunate incidents. They should be ended," and "Everyone expressed their views, and Rahulji heard them patiently." The appeal aims to restore party discipline while the high command prepares to decide the chief‑ministerial candidate.
